About This Experience
Discover an Amsterdam Museum Like No Other
Amsterdam is renowned for cultural icons such as the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, yet STRAAT Museum offers a completely different artistic experience while making its own powerful mark on the city’s creative scene. Just as the masterpieces displayed in Amsterdam’s renowned museums have influenced fashion, design, and culture, street art and graffiti continue to shape contemporary culture in remarkable ways.
The museum’s setting perfectly complements the bold character of the artwork, both inside and outside the building. STRAAT is housed in a vast 8,000 m² former industrial warehouse, whose raw and unconventional atmosphere reflects the expressive nature of the art on display. This is not a traditional museum designed for comfort—with no heating and uneven floors, the surroundings form an integral part of an experience that encourages visitors to see art from a different perspective.
A Vibrant Hub of Street Art and Creativity
The collection at STRAAT is constantly evolving, with artworks changing regularly and new pieces being added on an ongoing basis. Time your visit carefully and you may even have the opportunity to watch artists creating new works live on-site.
The museum showcases artists from across the international street art movement, each bringing their own distinctive background, personal story, artistic style, and creative talent. The artworks have been created specifically for STRAAT, following the authentic spirit of street art by being produced directly on location.
The artistic experience continues beyond the museum walls. The exterior of the building itself forms part of the collection, featuring a striking giant, multi-coloured portrait of Anne Frank. Located in the former NDSM wharf, the venue is an artistic destination in its own right and is also recognised as a national monument. From walls and cranes to shipping containers, the surroundings showcase vibrant traces of Amsterdam’s long-standing graffiti culture.
Inside STRAAT, the artwork is presented on an impressive scale, recreating the impact it would have when encountered on the streets. However, the museum experience offers something more: context and information about each artwork and its creator. Learn about the artists, their stories, and the meanings behind their creations—insights that are rarely available when encountering street art in its original urban setting.
Book Your STRAAT Museum Tickets
Once considered one of Amsterdam’s hidden gems, the NDSM wharf is attracting an increasing number of visitors eager to discover its creative atmosphere. Book your STRAAT Museum tickets and venture into Amsterdam’s raw and artistic northern district for an unforgettable encounter with the world of street art and graffiti.
