About This Experience
Exploring the islands of the Venetian Lagoon is a wonderful way to discover the region’s natural beauty, distinctive character, and rich cultural heritage. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to admire the traditional crafts and artisanal traditions that have been preserved across these unique islands.
Your adventure begins in San Marco, where you will meet your professional tour guide before boarding a comfortable motorboat bound for the enchanting islands of the Venetian Lagoon.
Your first destination is Murano, famously known as the “floating factory” and renowned for its centuries-old glassmaking heritage. The remarkable craft of transforming glass into delicate and intricate creations dates back to the 8th century. For centuries, Murano’s glassmakers closely guarded their techniques, with restrictions once placed on leaving the island to protect these valuable traditions.
During your visit, step inside one of Murano’s renowned glass factories and watch a fascinating live demonstration of traditional glassmaking techniques. Following the demonstration, enjoy approximately one hour of free time to explore the island independently, browse local shops, and take in its charming atmosphere.
Next, continue to Burano, a picturesque destination formed by five small islands linked by charming bridges. Famous for its vibrant pastel-colored houses and exquisite lace-making tradition, Burano has been celebrated for centuries. During the 16th century, its handcrafted lace became highly prized and widely admired throughout Europe. The island is also home to the historic Scuola dei Merletti, a renowned lace-making school founded in 1872. While wandering through the colorful streets, you may even see local artisans carefully creating delicate lace by hand.
Enjoy around two hours of free time in Burano, perfect for exploring the island at your own pace and stopping for lunch at a local restaurant. Lunch is not included in the tour package.
Your final stop is Torcello, one of the earliest inhabited islands of the Venetian Lagoon. Following the decline of the Roman Empire, settlers sought refuge here while escaping repeated invasions and attacks. Today, Torcello offers a peaceful atmosphere and fascinating historical surroundings. Spend approximately one hour exploring the island independently, discovering its historic landmarks and tranquil landscape.
After your island exploration, return to the motorboat and cruise back toward the San Marco area, arriving at approximately 5:30 PM.
Experience the distinctive beauty, fascinating history, and time-honored craftsmanship of Murano, Burano, and Torcello on this memorable journey through the Venetian Lagoon.
